Finally, Smart Business Magazine (formerly PC Computing Magazine) features a story about Top 5 Reasons Customers Abandon their Shopping Carts. They basically confirm what we’ve been telling our customers for the last 5 years. They claim that between 25 to 75% of on-line shopping carts are abandoned due to the following five reasons. Reason #1: Customers can’t find what they’re looking for.

Since one of RealCart’s founders is a web designer our shopping cart started out with GOOD NAVIGATION. The article in Smart Business says to create a site structure that is straightforward and easy to navigate. Our templates make it very easy for your customer to find what he/she wants.

Reason #2: The shopping cart is too hard to find.

Not with our shopping cart! Ours stays visible the entire time your web shopper shops. There is a very good reason for this. We patterned our on-line shopping cart to be just like it’s off-line counterpart. Take a look at our history page for complete details.

Reason #3: It takes too long to close the deal.

Three Clicks! That’s how many clicks it takes to buy something with our shopping cart. If you put your customer through an obstacle course they will likely give up and try to buy elsewhere. MAKE IT EASY FOR YOUR CUSTOMER TO GIVE YOU MONEY AND HE/SHE WILL! Some of our themes make it possible to buy something with only TWO CLICKS!

Reason #4: Customers don’t feel safe in your store.

Security is an important issue to people shopping on-line. For this reason we designed our shopping cart so that it will run on ANY secure server and it will connect up to hundreds of merchant providers. This section of the article also warns you to NOT hide your customer service information. Our shopping cart places the contact information you enter in a convenient “Help page” link directly below the shopping cart where it is very easy to find.

Reason #5: Browsing takes too long.

This is precisely why we incorporated a “thumbnail and zoom” system with our shopping cart. The thumbnail files load quickly reducing the time it takes to browse your on-line store. If a customer wants to see a large image of a particular product he/she can choose to do so. We’ve known this for years. Compress your images down to a manageable size and you’ll see more sales as a result of your “user-friendly” shopping cart.

We’ve been telling people all of the above for several years now. So don’t take our word for it.... take ZDnet’s! We’ve known all along the problems with the typical e-commerce shopping carts. Hidden carts result in abandoned orders. If a web shopper can’t figure out how to give you money he won’t give you any money. It’s as simple as that.
